WASHINGTON (AP) _ The man known as ``Grumpy'' to his colleagues drew some hisses as he gavelled open the House debate Friday on President Clinton's impeachment by warning members against comparing the president's personal conduct to lawmakers' private lives.
Despite the groans, even Democrats agreed Illinois Republican Ray LaHood, virtually unknown outside the Beltway before this turn in the spotlight, was a good choice to preside over the emotionally charged proceedings.
``The speaker in my opinion could not have chosen a better person, a more fair person, than Mr. LaHood,'' said Rep. Frank Mascara, D-Pa.
