WASHINGTON (AP) _ U.S. cruise missiles, speeding to targets with a faint whine and 1,000 or more pounds of explosives, strike deep within Iraq without endangering pilots. But there are problems: The missiles aren't always accurate, they're expensive, and they're becoming scarce.

Defense officials say it will take months to figure out if the cruise missiles launched against Iraq were effective. What is clear already is that concern about the loss of aircrews has made cruise missiles the weapon of choice in combat against Iraq.
