Thanks to an extra New Year holiday in New Zealand, the world's first
significant trade of Europe's new currency took place today in Australia.
As Sonny Inbaraj reports, the trading of the euro had been within traders'
expectations.

While most of the world slept yesterday morning, Australia became the
first market in the world to handle official trade in the newest currency,
the euro.

With New Zealand financial traders taking the New Year holiday today,
Australian traders became the first to take an official bite at the world's
number two reserve currency. The euro made its official debut, after Indian
traders gave ''indicative quotes'' for it on New Year's day, ...
