NEW YORK (AP) _ A former aide to Islamic extremist Osama bin Laden has pleaded guilty to federal terrorism charges in a secret proceeding and is cooperating with prosecutors, court records show.

The identity and home of the aide who has been cooperating for the past two years is blacked out in the U.S. District Court papers. The aide's information has provided much of the background for charges brought against suspects in the deadly bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania last August.
