ALTHOUGH any direct impact from the euro has yet to be felt by Thai
exporters, the recent rise of the Thai baht against the US dollar and Japanese
yen because of the euro may affect the competitiveness of Thai exporters
in the short to medium term, Thai exporters warned.

They expressed worries over the recent fluctuation of the yen, which
rose against the euro and the dollar while the baht rose against the dollar
to close at Bt36.03.

Exporters said that if the baht continued to be pushed up by currency
fluctuations they might find it harder to compete against neighbouring
countries whose currencies were cheaper than the baht, such as the ...
