A monster of an event is going to a monster of a course.

The PGA of America on Monday awarded the 2003 Ryder Cup to Oakland Hills Country Club, the Donald Ross layout in suburban Detroit that Ben Hogan referred to as a ``monster'' when he won the U.S. Open in 1951.

The PGA also awarded future Ryder Cup matches to Medinah Country Club outside Chicago, and to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., a new Jack Nicklaus course owned by the PGA and likely to become a regular stop in its championship rotation.

Oakland Hills, Valhalla and Medinah also were awarded a PGA Championship in the next decade.
