SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ The road to Zanzibar is a long one _ especially for a shipment of 10,000 books that have been stuck in storage for four years.
The donated books, which have been sitting in offices of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, are set to head for the open sea today, courtesy of a free pass on a Columbus Line vessel.
The tons of donated books have been earmarked for a research center in East Africa and the one public library on the island of Zanzibar.
So why such a long wait?
