LONDON (AP) _ Leaders of the Manchester United soccer club Wednesday announced a $1 billion agreement to sell the storied franchise to one of Rupert Murdoch's television companies, sparking fan protest and rage in British tabloids.

The deal _ the largest amount ever paid for a sports team _ prompted cries of ``Sold To The Red Devil'' on the front page of The Mirror. Next to the large, bold headline was a picture of Murdoch with horns.
