SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) _ Mobil Corp. has agreed to pay $1 million to settle a county lawsuit alleging that the company intentionally disabled fuel leak-detection systems at 40 gas stations.

The company's actions did not lead to any fuel leaks or harmful discharges to the environment, but created an unacceptable risk, said Deputy District Attorney Michelle Lyman, a prosecutor in the environmental protection unit of the Orange County District Attorney's office.
