WASHINGTON (AP) _ Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., has won his motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, but not without a serious tongue-lashing.
A federal judge this week ruled that the First Amendment protected McDermott when he allegedly disclosed a December 1996 taped cell phone conversation of House Republican leaders.
U.S. District Court Judge Thomas F. Hogan added this editorial comment about McDermott, who was a member of the House Ethics Committee at the time of the flap:
