Oxford Dictionary OKs split infinitive
LONDON, Aug. 13 (UPI) _ The new Oxford Dictionary has officially
declared that it is perfectly alright to split infinitives.
More than that, the new Oxford Dictionary asserts the phrase
``Christian name'' is obsolete.
Early news reports that the dictionary challenges other traditional
rules of grammar to provide for more politically correct word use and
to avoid sexism, has provoked strong reaction.
In London, the Queen's English Society today called for establishment
of an English Academy, which would act like the Academie Francaise in
France, to protect the English language from damage.
