Activist probed police before arrest
OTTAWA, July 28 (UPI) _ The Ottawa-based World Sikh Organization says a
prominent human rights activist arrested in India last week was
documenting the disappearance of people in Punjab when police picked
him up.
Anne Lowthian, spokeswoman for the World Sikh Organization, says Jaspal
Singh Dhillon was investigating the cremation of hundreds of bodies by
the state police.
Dhillon was one of two human rights activists reportedly arrested in
Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab state. Amnesty International's Ottawa
bureau identified the other detained activist as Rajinder Singh Neeta.
