AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) _ Royal Philips Electronics NV said Thursday its net operating profit in the first half rose to 1.57 billion guilders ($785 million), up from 1.15 billion guilders ($575 million) in the same period a year ago.
For the second quarter, net operating profit rose to 854 million guilders, from 693 million guilders a year ago.
The first half was marked by an extraordinary gain of 1.02 billion guilders from the sale of Philips Car Systems to Germany's Mannesmann VDO and the sale of the Optoelectronics unit to Uniphase Corp.
