BOSTON (AP) _ The Boston Red Sox put pitcher Brian Rose on the disabled list on Friday and said that Steve Avery would take his turn in the rotation on Saturday.
The team said that Rose had inflammation and calcification in his right elbow. He will have the option of cortisone injections or rest.
Rose was 1-4 with a 6.93 ERA in eight starts this season after earning a spot in the rotation in spring training as a rookie. He was flown back to Boston for an examination after his last start, on Tuesday.
Avery, a two-time 18-game winner with Atlanta, had a 9.64 ERA in just 4 2-3 innings of relief for the Red Sox before agreeing ...
