MIAMI (AP) _ Motorcycle cop William Swikehardt, a veteran of six operations after a collision with a car, thought he was nuts to pick hypnosis instead of anesthesia for surgery No. 7.
``I thought stuff like that was for making people yap like a dog or crow like a rooster,'' he said.
But there he was on the operating table, ready to join the hundreds of people each year who undergo hypnosis before surgery, root canals, childbirth or postoperative healing.
Patients who swear by hypnosis say it removes the fear of pain, shortens recovery and cuts down on the number of medicines needed to heal their bodies. Doctors say patients even bleed less without ...
