One of the classic Monty Python sketches was a parody of the Spanish Inquisition, in which a gang of sadistic, bloodthirsty inquisitors threatened their victims with a torture device more terrifying than the rack or iron maiden: the dreaded "comfy chair."

This was simply a well-upholstered easy chair which, to the puzzlement of the clueless inquisitors, somehow failed to elicit the requisite screams of pain and terror from those who sat down on its excruciatingly soft cushions.
