Lebanon's Lahoud talks to King Abdullah

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Feb. 9 (UPI) _ Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, who
was criticized by Lebanese newspapers for failing to attend King
Hussein's funeral in Amman, has telephoned Jordan's new monarch, King
Abdullah, to pay his condolences and wish him success.

According to an official government statement, Lahoud called King
Abdullah today to offer his condolences for the death of his father and
``to wish him success in his new responsibilities and the Jordanian
people progress and prosperity.''

Lahoud and Prime Minister Selim Hoss also visited the Jordanian Embassy
