(CHICAGO) _ The scare over a series of strep-related deaths is keeping
Chicago-area clinics busy with patients seeking strep tests. So far
this year seven people have died from aggressive strains of the strep
bacteria, which causes nothing more serious than strep throat in most
people. But in rare cases the same bacteria can cause toxic shock.
Doctors say anyone with a sore throat and fever should seek medical
attention. But those with typical cold symptoms, such as a runny nose
or cough, most likely don't have strep.
