PARIS, Apr. 3 (IPS) -- The Group of Seven (G-7) nations have
defied the warnings of Japan and lined themselves up for a battle
with the rest of Asia by singling out the need for improving core
labor standards worldwide.
Japan, backed by Britain, had warned against overstressing the
need for core labor standards on issues like child and forced
labor, trade union rights and discrimination at the G-7 ministerial
meeting on jobs in Lille, France, which ended yesterday.
