Heart disease risks traced to infancy

ORLANDO, Fla., March 26 (UPI) _ Researchers are reporting they can
trace cardiovascular disease in adults to risk factors that show up in
childhood and even infancy.

The findings come from two studies, one showing strong ethnic
differences in cardiovascular risk factors in more than 7,000 young
black, hispanic and white children, and another suggesting that
children born weighing more than average are more likely to be obese as
adolescents.

In the study of ethnic differences, black and Hispanic girls tended to
get more calories from fat and to be heavier than white girls in every
