VIC: Federal Court barristers wigless from next year

MELBOURNE, Dec 8 AAP - Federal Court barristers will appear wigless in court from the
beginning of next year, Chief Justice Michael Black announced today.

"Given that judges of the Federal Court no longer wear wigs, it is appropriate that
barristers appearing in our court no longer wear them either," the Chief Justice said in a
statement today.

"Wigs are no longer appropriate and relevant in the Federal Court."

Federal court judges stooped wearing wigs two years ago.

The Australian Bar Association (ABA) welcomed the decision to allow its members to appear
bare-headed in the Federal Court.
