QLD: Laws needed on de facto relationships, says group

BRISBANE, Dec 15 AAP - The Queensland government should urgently introduce legislation
governing de facto relationships, a legal group said today.

Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland president Nita Stratton-Funk said that
like Western Australia and Tasmania, Queensland had no legislation regulating de facto
relationships and the laws in other states varied widely.

"To date, the states have refused to refer powers to determine de facto property disputes
to the commonwealth, being the Family Court," Ms Stratton-Funk said in a statement.
