VIC: Technicality stops fugitive s wife getting visa

MELBOURNE, Jan 12 AAP - The wife of fugitive Mexican banker Carlos Cabal Peniche today lost
her fight in the Federal Court for a bridging visa and her release from an immigration
detention centre.

Teresa Pasini Cabal, who has been in custody since November 11 last year, wants to be freed
to take care of her four children, aged seven to 14, who are being looked after by a nanny.

However Ms Cabal, whose husband is in custody pending extradition proceedings, had her bid
for the visa rejected because of a technicality involving the timing and validity of the
application.
