WA: Former Christian brother unlikely to face trial

PERTH, Jan 29 AAP - Ailing former Christian Brother Lawrence Murphy is unlikely to face
trial over allegations that he abused an 11-year-old boy in his care.

In the Perth District Court today, Judge George Sadlier said Murphy, 81, was too ill to
face trial and adjourned the matter to a non-specified date.

If Crown prosecutors do not apply for another trial date, Murphy will not face court over
six charges of indecent dealing and carnal knowledge against the order of nature.

Judge Sadlier ruled Murphy was not fit to stand trial after his lawyers applied for
