QLD: Baywatch to be filmed at Gold Coast

GOLD COAST, Feb 26 AAP - The sun, sand and surf of the Gold Coast will be shown in 144
countries on the world's most watched television series after the US producers of Baywatch
struck a handshake deal to relocate to the tourist city.

Queensland Tourism Minister Bob Gibbs announced the in-principle deal today after meeting
Baywatch executive producer Greg Bonnan who had headed north scouting for a location after
plans to shoot the series at Sydney's Avalon Beach were thwarted by local opposition.

Mr Gibbs said he hoped to sign early next week a contract cementing the deal for production
