FED: Brereton denies leadership bid speculation

CANBERRA, March 6 AAP - Opposition foreign affairs spokesman Laurie Brereton today denied
he was making a bid for leadership of the federal Labor Party, dismissing speculation he was
seeking to destabilise the party and challenge Kim Beazley.

Following a Labor row over controversial comments Mr Brereton made last month on Labor
policy on East Timor, The Australian newspaper today reported a large number of senior
frontbench Labor members believed Mr Brereton was defying Mr Beazley in a leadup to a
leadership bid.
