VIC: Kennett faces legal bill over failed defamation case

MELBOURNE, March 11 AAP - A jury today took less than an hour to decide Victorian Premier
Jeff Kennett's name had not been tarnished by a newspaper article he said falsely accused him
of having extramarital affairs.
The Premier was not present in the Supreme Court when the six-member jury handed down its
decision in the defamation trial, which could cost him more than $125,000 in legal costs.
Legal experts tonight said the case could discourage future defamation claims by public
figures, but warned the media was not immune from legal action.
