FED: WWII Flying Officer to have military funeral today

CANBERRA, April 15 AAP - An RAAF World War II pilot was today honoured with a full military
funeral more than half a century after he was shot down during a daring raid on Japanese
positions off New Guinea.

The remains of Flying Officer Maurice Ambrose Bellert, 27, were found in the sea off Irian
Jaya last month, 55 years after he and his P-40 Kittyhawk aircraft went missing during the
raid.

His only son, Canberra property agent Allan Bellert, and family members attended the
funeral service at the Lae War Cemetery in Papua New Guinea today.
