NSW; Residents demand Government and BHP reduce dioxin

SYDNEY, April 21 AAP - Residents from the dioxin hotspot of Port Kembla have called on the
federal government to honour its election commitment to reduce pollution from the toxic
chemical, Greenpeace said today.

The Illawarra Action Campaign was set up in reaction to a recent Greenpeace report
revealing that Port Kembla had the highest known dioxin pollution in Australia.

The report released last December titled "Dioxin Hotspots in Australia" identifies the BHP
Port Kembla steel plant as the major source of dioxin.
