University of Southern Maine pitcher Mark Russell wasn't at his best.
It didn't matter.
The Huskies pounded four Amherst pitchers for 14 hits, stole seven bases and
made the big defensive plays in the clutch for a 10-6 win Friday at Hadlock
Field in the second round of the double-elimination NCAA Division III New
England regional baseball tournament.
In the other tourney games, Trinity beat Bridgewater State 2-1 to eliminate
the Bears. Brandeis eliminated Williams, 3-2.
No. 2 seed Southern Maine (36-11) plays No. 1 Brandeis (31-8) at noon today
in a game of teams undefeated in tournament play.
