NABATIYEH, Lebanon, Apr. 16 (IPS) -- Standing defiantly with his
family in a doorway watching the spirals of white smoke left by
Israeli bombs only two kilometers away, Mohammed Ruman staunchly
refuses to flee.
While most of the people in his village have headed north to
relative safety to escaped to relentless Israeli shelling of the
past six days Ruman said he sees no reason to leave. For him and
an increasing number of Shi'ites in the south of the country, they
say they owe it to their country and their people to resist Israeli
efforts to declare a free-fire zone across their land.
