SALT LAKE CITY - Hundreds of thousands of people took a gander at the Mormon church's new genealogical Web site on its first official day, so overwhelming the site that IBM had to take it down to increase the server capacity.
The site, www.familysearch.org, was down for six hours because the pipeline into the IBM computer servers at Schaumburg, Ill., became clogged, said Elder D. Todd Christofferson, executive director of the church's Family History Department.
