FED: Cat allergen found in Antarctic

BRISBANE, June 8 AAP - Cat allergen can't be escaped even in the Antarctic, researchers
have found.
The Wellington Asthma Research Group, New Zealand, tested belongings from personnel at
Scott Base on Ross Island, finding surprisingly high levels of cat dander and even some house
dust mites.
"We expected there to be few allergens in these cold, dry conditions," Professor Julian
Crane told AAP.
"Antarctica is in fact the most arid place on earth and it's the only continent that has
always been cat-free."
