To be healthy means to suffer, according to a widespread attitude that equates health consciousness with "health freaks."

From this it has followed that it is "natural" for organically grown food to look miserable, deformed and unattractive compared with the artificially engineered sleek and glossy stuff.

"After years of seeing limp, blemished specimens on the organic produce shelves, I was shocked when I visited Neal's Yard in London to find an incredible variety of superb organic fruit and vegetables from Israel," says food consultant and Jerusalem Post food writer Phyllis Glazer. "I couldn't believe they were really organic."
