Study says New Yorkers worse off in the job market

A smaller percentage of New Yorkers in nearly every age, gender, race/ethnicity, educational and citizenship category are working compared to counterparts in other cities, reveals a new study by the Community Service Society (CSS) of New York.

"The report illustrates that the city has a unique set of problems," said CSS Pres. David R. Jones, "and its ills are not simple a mirror of national trends. Since the figures reflect a period of prosperity through 1997, they predate the current stock market fluctuations. I can only anticipate with alarm what will happen when the economy really turns sour."
