LONDON, Apr. 26 (IPS) -- Pro-democracy activists are urging
travel agencies and tourists in Britain to boycott Burma as part
of a campaign by NGOs to pressure the military junta in Rangoon to
clean up its human rights record.
Earlier this week, the U.S. corporation PepsiCo announced it
would sell its equity shares in its operations in Burma (also known
as Myanmar) following sustained pressure from human rights
activists in North America.
Activists say that the international community is not putting
enough political pressure on the Rangoon regime to restore
democracy in Burma. They hope that an unofficial economic squeeze
