I have just come back from Australia where I had the opportunity to participate in a conference on Racial Reconciliation. This effort culminated a process begun in 1991, when the Australian government established an Aboriginal Reconciliation Commission to begin to work on the demands being made by the black people of that country for justice.
This meeting happened just at the time when the Clinton Advisory Committee on race, which also had a strong theme of racial reconciliation, was presenting its report to the President and when the government of Nelson Mandela in South Africa had ...
