The towns of School Union 47 are considering construction of their own middle
school and high school, a move that would shift hundreds of students out of
Bath's secondary schools.
The proposal, aimed at bringing more local control and a small-school
atmosphere to the upper grades, is still in its early stages. But residents in
Arrowsic, Georgetown, Phippsburg, West Bath and Woolwich could take a
non-binding vote as early as this fall to remove their students from Bath
Middle School and Morse High School.
If approved, the split would mean changes not only for more than 700 children
