CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (AP) She is known as the Possum Lady, searching the pouches of dead opossums along the road for any babies, and carrying the "pinkies" she finds in her own pouch until they can be released.
But Charlie Herring's one-person crusade has landed her in trouble.
After reading a story about her in Medford's Mail Tribune newspaper, police cited her for rehabilitating wild animals without a license.
"She is well-meaning. She thinks she is doing right," said State Police Trooper Pat McNeilly.
But opossums are not native to the Northwest, and wildlife managers consider them a threat to the native wildlife and domestic animals because ...
