Indian country case threat to all tribes
VENETIE, Alaska -- Terminating Alaska Native rights to self-determination could lead to the demise of Indian country throughout the United States.
"Unfortunately, the greatest threat to Indian country nationwide is that the courts could find that Congress explicitly extinguished Indian country in Alaska," said Heather Kendall-Miller, a Native American Rights Fund attorney representing the Native village of Venetie, Alaska.
