SA: SA calls for better deal for river system from Qld

ADELAIDE, July 15 AAP - The South Australian government has called for a greater commitment
from Queensland to preserve and protect the Cooper Creek river system.

Environment Minister Dorothy Kotz said today the Queensland government's draft Cooper Creek
water management plan, which would allow irrigators upstream to take more water, was
unacceptable in its current form.

Mrs Kotz said the plan would cause environmental damage, threatening bird, fish and frog
species supported by the Cooper Creek and Coongie Lakes wetlands.
