At 9 a.m. on a recent Monday morning, Reform cantorial student Wally Schachet-Briskin walks into the seminary's Greenwich Village chapel, takes out his guitar, and begins to lead the morning prayers. He is joined at the podium by a rabbinical peer in tallit and tefillin, with 100 other students at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion sitting on benches surrounding them.
