GM Concept Cars Target Young Buyers

DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Corp. forfeited its reputation as an automotive styling leader decades ago with increasingly bland, look-alike cars that contributed to a long, steady slide in its U.S. market share.

With this week's opening of the 1999 Detroit auto show, GM is unveiling a fleet of concept cars that executives hope will reverse its stodgy image and lure younger buyers. If reaction on the show circuit is positive, most if not all could make it into production.
