How America Changes One.
I didn't realize how much I've changed since I came to Los Angeles 12 years ago until my sister from the Philippines came for a visit. "You have a cat? A black cat?" she exclaimed incredulously.
"And what are these?" she asked, pointing to the corner where the cat's four pink ceramic bowls were neatly laid out on a white placemat. "Gosh, this is a smorgasboard!" she said, referring to the soft food, crunchies, deli chicken and milk in the bowls.
My sister's incredulity was warranted. In the Philippines, where cats, especially black ones, are considered bad luck, this sort of pampering is simply incomprehensible. Cats, helpful ...
