Sociologist: Jews serve as junior partners to God.
Dr. Mervin F. Verbit describes Jews as God's junior partners.
At Mount Sinai, God entered into a covenant with the Jews in which the Jewish people agreed to play a special role as the ideal society, according to Verbit.
"Their job is to work with God to complete creation by bringing about the ideal world. That is how we are created in God's image," Verbit said.
"If you obey My law you will be a `holy nation,' or to use the prophetic phrase, `a light unto the nations,' was God's message to the Jews," Verbit said.
