Radio explores African-American sacred music.
National Public Radio and the Smithsonian Institution are now broadcasting a 26-part exploration of African-American sacred music and its influences on American life.
Entitled "Wade in the Water: African-American Sacred Music Traditions," the hour-long programs are hosted by Bernice Johnson Reagon, Ph.D., founder of the Smithsonian's program in African-American culture.
"Wade in the Water" documents the history of African-Americans through song and music, story telling and historical analysis throughout a 200-year period beginning with their arrival on American shores. African-Americans ...
