Treating clothes with Teflon -- the same stuff that keeps eggs from
sticking to your pan -- was supposed to make them stain and soil
resistant.

And it did. When manufacturers began treating clothing with the
stuff, the stains never stood a chance. Buyers for high-end retailers
such as Nordstrom, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue have
been buying them by the truckload.
