Mr. President: One hundred and sixteen years ago today, June 25, 1876, nearly half the members of the United States Army's Seventh Cavalry, under the direction of George Armstrong Custer perished in a famous battle along the Little Big Horn River. The aftermath of that battle had consequences for our nation, for other Indian tribes and bands, and for many of the descendants and survivors for the rest of their lives.
