Lawsuit threat prompted settlement of F-16 dispute

The threat of a lawsuit by Pakistan and the precedent it would have created apparently prompted the United States to expeditiously resolve the dispute over the F-16 fighter aircraft that had remained in limbo for years.

Diplomatic sources here told India Abroad that "the U.S. obviously didn't want to open the floodgates of similar lawsuits from Iran, Libya and others whose money they are sitting on, which runs into billions of dollars."
