New Jersey on Thursday moved to just a step away from a new law
allowing drivers to accelerate up to 65 mph without fear of a speeding
ticket.

But the final step -- Governor Whitman's signature on the
speed-limit bill passed by both the Senate and the Assembly -- is
unlikely without a change in the measure, a spokesman for Whitman said.
